Clowes Pavilion Re-Imagined
Installation view of The Clowes Pavilion Reimagined, opened March 25, 2022. Courtesy of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.
A reimagining of the Early European Clowes Pavilion that transformed a beloved gallery space into a more immersive, engaging, and connected experience. Following a multi-year renovation, the newly reinstalled galleries bring together nearly 100 works from the Clowes Collection and Newfields’ permanent collection, exploring significant social and art historical themes across time and cultures. At the center of the experience is a state-of-the-art digital LED ceiling—the only installation of its kind in a museum environment—which transforms the gallery’s atmosphere and evokes an outdoor space at the heart of the museum. Innovative teaching and interpretive elements further invite visitors to look, connect, and engage with the collection in new ways. The reinstallation resulted in significant increases in attendance and visitor dwell time.
My Role
I led the content and interpretive strategy for the reimagined pavilion, working across teams to develop a cohesive guest experience. I provided strategic and creative direction for the integration of the LED ceiling, helping shape how the technology, physical space, collection, and interpretation worked together as a unified experience. I also led evaluation strategies with my team, including formative and summative research, using visitor feedback and data to assess the experience and inform improvements and additions to the space over time. These findings also helped inform broader approaches to gallery development and interpretation.
